The Desert Eagle was conceptualized and initially patented by Bernard C. White of Magnum Research and Arnolds Streinbergs of the Riga Arms Institute in 1983. The engineering and production refinement of the .44 Magnum variant were finalized by Israeli military engineers at Israel Military Industries (IMI). The .44 Magnum Desert Eagle was introduced in 1986 as a progression of the original .357 Magnum model. Instead of a traditional recoil-operated system used in most semi-automatic handguns, this pistol utilizes a gas-operated rotating bolt mechanism similar to that of an AR-15 rifle to safely handle the extreme pressure of magnum cartridges. This low serial number Bright Nickel example, still in its original factory box appears to be unfired and includes 2 – 8rnd magazines, cleaning rod and tool. Please see photos. C&R
