A Fine, Exceptionally Rare Cased British Mid-19th Century Percussion Pepperbox Pistol 6 barrel Revolver by J.W. Edge, Manchester | • Manufacturer: John William Edge (Manchester, England) | • Model: "Improved Revolving Pistol" Self-Cocking Pepperbox | • Date of Manufacture: Circa 1840–1850 | • Serial Number: 324 | • Caliber/Bore: Approx. .40 to .50 Bore | • Action: Six-Shot, Double-Action Only (Self-Cocking) | • Classification: Antique Firearm (Exempt from PAL / Registration in Canada) | Description: | Offered is a magnificent example of Victorian-era personal defense engineering: a cased, mid-19th-century percussion pepperbox revolver crafted by the highly esteemed Manchester gunmaker, John William Edge. Renowned for his exceptional precision and high-grade craftsmanship, Edge operated out of Manchester from the late 1827 until 1864, later collaborating on experimental rifling projects with Sir Joseph Whitworth. | This premium-grade specimen features a robust, six-shot fluted barrel cluster. The frame is beautifully decorated with classic British floral scrollwork that remains incredibly sharp and tactile. The left side of the action frame is crisply hand-engraved "J.W. Edge / Manchester", while the top strap features the definitive period marketing engraving, "IMPROVED REVOLVING PISTOL"—proclaiming its mechanically superior, trigger-activated self-rotating barrel design. | Of pinnacle importance to the advanced collector is the exceptionally low, three-digit serial number, 324, which is masterfully engraved within a dedicated scrollwork cartouche on the backstrap. The pistol features its original, smooth wooden bag-shaped grips, showing a deep natural patina and excellent fitment. The steel surfaces have aged beautifully into a highly desirable, uniform pewter-grey patina, presenting perfectly defined lines completely free of any modern buffing or destructive cleaning. | The pistol is housed in its original, fitted mahogany presentation case lined with period red velvet, complete with its original curved
