The Colt AR-15 A2 Sporter II is a semi-automatic rifle manufactured by Colt in the mid-to-late 1980s, designed for the civilian market and closely modeled after the military’s M16A2 service rifle. It is highly sought after by collectors, particularly pre-ban models, due to its historical significance and reliable construction. It features a 20-inch government profile barrel with a twist rate of 1 in 7-inch rifling , optimized for stabilizing the heavier 5.56 NATO 62-grain ammunition. The barrel is chrome-lined, bayonet lug, fixed carry handle upper receiver with a full A2-style adjustable rear sight for both windage and elevation, a significant improvement over the A1’s simpler sights. It utilizes A2-style polymer furniture, including a fixed buttstock with a storage compartment for a cleaning kit, round handguards with heat shielding, and an A2 pistol grip with a finger nub, and an A2 bird cage flash hider.
