This antique wooden slat egg crate carrier was manufactured by the Reliable Incubator & Brooder Co. in Quincy, Illinois. A wonderful piece of early American agricultural history, this rustic transport crate features a multi-tiered slatted lath design reinforced with thin vertical wire supports. Engineered specifically for farm-to-market egg transport, the carrier is complete with its original removable slide-out top cover lid and a wire-looped wooden carry handle.

Condition Overview
Wooden Frame and Slat Construction: The primary slatted structure is stable with a heavily weathered antique patina. The openwork lath side panels are physically intact with all layers secured by primitive nails and original vertical metal wire braces. The solid board floor remains sturdy, showing natural knot holes, separation gaps between the bottom planks, and historic nail corrosion.
Lid and Handle Wear: The removable slide-out lid panel fits securely within its side tracks but shows a large historic age split running completely through one of the wide center planks. The round wooden swing handle is functional with its wire loop fasteners intact, though the adjacent protective top-side guide rail shows a prominent localized fracture (which has been stabilized with clamps and wood glue) and wood compression chip near the center point. Faint traces of original factory ink stenciling are present on the weathered exterior faces.
