Item description:

Description: An antique, primitive American stoneware moonshine or whiskey jug. Wheel-thrown with a thick, straight-sided cylindrical body and a sloped upper shoulder. Finished in a classic two-tone salt glaze, featuring a dark brown Albany-slip top shoulder and spout over a light cream slip-glazed lower body, accented by dramatic vertical glaze runs down the backside. Fitted with a heavy, hand-applied thick loop strap handle.

Dimensions: Stands approximately 14.75 inches high to the top of the spout and measures 8.5 inches in diameter across the base.

Markings: The unglazed flat base footprint is unmarked, which is typical for 19th and early 20th-century Ohio utility stoneware. The profile, shoulder transition, and lip style align with production by the Robinson Ransbottom Pottery Company of Roseville, Ohio.

Condition: Authentic antique condition with standard manufacturing and age characteristics. The main pottery body is structurally sound and free of large hairline body cracks. A small, shallow historic chip is present on the upper outer rim of the poured pouring spout. The glaze features original minor kiln blemishes, pop marks, a small glaze skip on the shoulder ridge, and heavy, authentic shelf abrasion texture along the raw clay under-base ring.
