This exceptional antique hand vanity mirror captures the fine woodwork and elegant lines of the late George III to Regency era. Hand-carved from deep, rich solid mahogany, it features an elongated pointed paddle handle and stylized, sculptural wing flourishes flanking the neck junction.
Artisan Inlay Details: The circular mirror frame is meticulously bordered on both faces with an integrated, light-toned wood stringing inlay. The neck junction features a small, flush-set circular genuine bone or horn medallion accent.
Vanishing Back / Dual Glass Mirror: An incredibly rare and desirable design feature, this piece does not utilize a solid wooden backboard. Instead, it features a glass pane set into both sides of the mahogany frame. One side serves as a reflective viewing mirror, while the opposite side features an intentionally worn, speckled “vanishing glass” silvering patina that allows light and background wood grains to subtly show through.
Era: Antique Georgian / Regency era (Circa early 19th Century).
Dimensions: Measures approximately 11.5 inches in total length with a 6-inch diameter mirror head (refer to the edge-aligned rule markings for absolute scale).
Condition: Excellent antique character condition. The solid mahogany frame retains a gorgeous, smooth historic wax patina with very minimal edge scuffing and no structural splits or repairs. The bone medallion insert remains tightly fitted. The handle tip features a clean, intentional circular recess from its original hand-lathe construction. The mirror glass displays beautiful, honest age-appropriate desilvering spots and micro-speckling that antique collectors prize for verification.
