Item description:

Late Victorian two-over-two chest of drawers in a light golden finish, likely birch or maple, with attractive figured grain. It has a molded-edge top over two short drawers and two long drawers. The front is fitted with ornate pierced brass bail pulls and matching keyhole escutcheons. Paneled sides rest on a shaped, scalloped apron base. | | The drawers are built with Knapp "pin-and-scallop" joints. This machine-made joint was patented in 1867 and used mainly from about the 1870s to 1900, which helps date the piece to the late 19th century. The back panel carries a stenciled factory number, "No 1178." This is a practical, appealing antique chest for a bedroom, hallway, or entry. | | Dimensions: 43" W x 20 1/8" D x 31" H | | Condition: Sold as-is. The top appears to have been refinished and has an even glossy surface. There is age-appropriate wear, including scratches, small nicks, and edge wear to the case and drawer fronts. The back panel shows heavier scuffing and scratches. The hardware may be period-style replacements. Please see the photos to determine condition and value for yourself.
