Item description:

Mixed media of stone and metal, 22"t x 25"l x 17"w (approximate size), very heavy.
Marina Fricke (1929- Present) was born in Latvia and immigrated to Canada in the 1950s. She is recognized internationally for her unique natural stone wildlife sculptures.
During World War II, Marina and her family attempted to escape Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe. Nearly dead, collapsed in a ditch, she was rescued by a German
priest who hid and fed the family during the five years of war that followed.
Shortly after the war, Marina immigrated to Canada by ship. It was in Northern Ontario that she developed her love for rocks, and began using them to create her
wildlife-inspired art. Marina became more successful than she could have dreamed, with her art selling out at every gallery she displayed it in. Her 'hobby' paid for all of her four children's educations.
As of 2016, Marina is living in Northern Ontario.
